Living the Dharma in Daily Life

Marin Sangha is an insight meditation (vipassana) group in Marin County dedicated to offering the teachings of the Buddha and guidance in Buddhist spiritual discipline with an emphasis on living the dharma in daily life.

Sangha means community. The Marin Sangha holds the intention of building community by creating a safe and welcoming environment where dharma students can gather to explore the unfolding of the teachings in their lives. Everyone who attends is a valued member with a place in our community. This is an open group; people with all levels of meditation experience are invited to attend. New students are especially welcome.

Marin Sangha has been meeting since 1998.

We meet Sundays, 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Bayview Room at the

St. Luke Presbyterian Church
10 Bayview Drive
San Rafael, CA 94901

Chairs are provided, but bring your own meditation cushions. Wheelchair accessible.

Dana (generosity) Practice

In the Buddhist tradition, the teachings are given freely because they are considered priceless; therefore, there is no fee for attending our weekly meeting. However, in the Buddhist tradition we also practice dana, or generosity, by giving offerings in gratitude for the Dharma. Dana is not payment for goods or services rendered; it is given from the heart. We offer dana to our teachers, and many of them have no other means of support. Dana also pays for our rent, insurance, and other operational costs.

Another way to practice generosity is through service. A substantial amount of effort goes into ensuring that each meeting goes smoothly. Sangha members are encouraged to volunteer to help set up before the meeting and straighten up afterwards. You may help on a regular or occasional basis. This is another opportunity to make friends and participate in the Sangha.

"Social Sunday"

The third Sunday of each month is a time for socializing. We show up early, and many of us bring vegetarian snacks to share.
